Resolved Question: I need HELP about traveling from NJ to NYC?

Hi all,

I am weighing between two airports: the Kennedy and Newark airports. My destination is the Union Square or Grand Central Terminal station. The flights to Kennedy are now at a record high price at over $900, while the flights to Newark Airport are around $400-$500.

Suppose I take taxi after arriving to the airports. Which airport is more time-saving and trouble-free in terms of transportation? I know from Kennedy to Manhattan is around 1.15 hours, how about from Newark?

We're driving to New York, staying in Elizabeth, NJ by Jersey Gardens. I'm looking into the cheapest route to the city. We're a mile from the Newark Airport train that would take us to the city but that would cost us $50 round trip for the three of us! Plus the cost of subways once we're in the city.

So I'm thinking since we have a vehicle with us it might be better to drive into the city or another location outside that has a cheaper route in. One route plan I found was to take the bridge over to Staten Island ($6) then park at the ferry terminal ($5.50/day) and then take the free (and scenic) ferry into Manhattan. That plan only costs us $11.50. I would like to do this route at least once for the view but not sure I want the 25 minute ride over with a 1 yr old and 4 yr old each day we go over there. We'll probably go over 4 days.

Where can I park in the city for free or inexpensivly? Any locations would be useful. Near subsways would be best. Any other entry points you suggest?

I'm going to visit my friend who lives in Newark but it's a whole lot cheaper to fly into LGA, rather than Newark International (EWR) Does anyone know how I would get from LGA to Newark (or somewhere close by) using public transit? Also, how long would it take and cost? I can get a train ticket for about $25 dollars more that would go straight to Newark but take about 3 times longer than the flight from DC. Seems united airlines lost my wifes luggage while traveling to N J( Newark airport) & so far all i've been getting is the run around from the friendly skies people. It is really hard dealing with united due to the fact they have barricaded themselves in their Corp. Hdqtrs.in Chicago & outsources everything to India.United only gives these people a limited amt. of info.to work with & also the fact that there is a communication problem with the broken english.It is very frustrating & aggrevating not being able to get a straight ans. from anyone

Open Question: Flying Northwest?

From EWR (Newark Liberty Int'l Airport) to DTW (Detroit Metro-Wayne County) I will be flying alone. But from DTW to MNL (Ninoy Aquino Int'l Manila) I'll be flying with my cousins. Question is, will Northwest let me fly alone for just a 2 hour flight? I personally, see no danger in doing that. I'm 13 turning 14 a couple of days before I leave, just to let you know.
