My best friend and I want to go to Vegas between February and May, we are on a tight budget but don't want to stay in a dump either. We aren't gamblers we just want to see it for the first time. Both me and husband (5'7" and 6", respectively) found it to be very comfortable, very roomy, and smooth ride. It reminds me a little of my current vehicle (2000 Chevy Malibu). Would a used Cobalt (30,000 miles or less) be my best bet? (Foreign-made vehicles are out of my budget.)

I need to pick-up a mid-size car at Denver, CO Airport on 7/5/07 at noon, and drop it at Portland, OR Airport on 7/19/07 at 6:30 AM. I've been to Travelocity, Orbitz, Yahoo Travel, Priceline, and even my local travel agent. The best that anyone can offer is $875.00 with Budget Rent-A-Car. That's awfully high!

Does anyone out there have an alternative from these "main stream" rental options?

My grandma lives in another province and wants my daughter and I to come out and visit. She lives 12 hours away. The problem with visits out there is the lack of transportation to get around and I am on a tight budget.

This week I was looking into plane fares ($561 for a round trip). Though flying gives me migraines and my daughter would be very thrilled to fly. (She's only 5). The greyhound would cost around $300 and the Train is $600. Going to BC would be fine on the bus but coming back, there is standing room only.

My next option is to drive there. I'm not sure about it. The car is in good shape - but it would be just me and her in the car and I haven't had any luck finding a travel companion. Of course there are many sights and attractions on the highway as we're driving. If I drive my car there, I would have the needed transportation.

Car rentals out there are pricy and one has to have a credit card in order to get one. I can't afford one of those.....
